Orthotics Mile End

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are specially designed devices that provide support, cushioning, and alignment to the feet, ankles, and lower legs. They are frequently used to alleviate foot, ankle, and lower leg pain and to correct structural abnormalities like flat feet or high arches. Orthotics can also improve balance and stability, making them an excellent preventative or treatment option for injuries.

Orthotics come in a variety of types, from off-the-shelf inserts to custom-made devices that are tailored to meet an individual’s unique needs. Orthotics are made from a range of materials, such as foam, plastic, and metal, and can be worn in shoes or as a separate device. A podiatrist typically prescribes them as an effective treatment option for a range of conditions, such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and Achilles tendonitis.

How Do Orthotics Help?

Orthotic devices are highly effective in improving your mobility and reducing pain, whether they are used to treat existing issues or prevent future ones. According to research studies, 85% of patients who receive orthotic therapy for relevant injuries report an improvement or complete resolution of pain.

Adelaide Podiatry Centres provide personalised orthotic evaluation and prescription services to individuals residing in Mile End and the surrounding areas.

The Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are specifically designed to cater to the unique shape and requirements of an individual’s feet, offering a personalised and effective solution to foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. Precise measurements and scans of an individual’s feet are taken to create custom orthotics that provide better support, cushioning, and alignment, leading to pain relief and improved mobility.

Custom orthotics offer a solution that is tailored to specific foot and lower leg problems, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, or arthritis, providing customised support and comfort. By distributing pressure more evenly across the foot, custom orthotics can reduce the risk of further injury and improve overall foot function. Compared to off-the-shelf inserts, custom orthotics are more durable and longer-lasting, making them a cost-effective option in the long run.

Types of Orthotics

We offer a range of different types of orthotics at our podiatry clinics including:

Standard Half Length Orthotics

Half length orthotics where the top cover stops at the end of the orthotic shell – the main part that provides support for your feetHalf length orthotics require less room in the toe box of footwear, allowing flexibility and  ease in wearing your orthotics across a range of shoe styles.

Sporthotics

Orthotics made for sports can be designed for comfortable walking or customised for particular sports and activities. Sports orthotics are typically crafted from softer materials to prevent blistering and feature support modifications that are tailored to the sport and footwear.

Slimthotics

Slim line or dress orthotics are made for more specific shoe types, such as sandals, football boots and cycling shoes, where other styles of orthotics just won’t fit. Due to the fact the orthotics are made digitally we can size them to any width to the nearest millimetre.

Courthotics

Courthotics are ultra-slim orthotics designed for shoes where regular-sized orthotics may not fit. These orthotics have an adhesive base and can be easily fitted into almost any shoe for added support. They are ideal for heels and open shoes.

The Orthotic Fitting Process

Our podiatrists perform a thorough analysis to ensure that your custom-made orthotics fit perfectly. Our orthotic fitting and design process includes multiple assessments to determine your unique requirements and create orthotics that are precise and accurate for your needs.

Biomechanical Examination

Your practitioner will perform a biomechanical assessment of your hips, knees, ankle and feet. This biomechanical assessment is important to make sure that the orthotic prescription is going to meet your body type, feet and your needs. Every person is different and so it is important to look at each person individually.

Computerised Gait Analysis

During your appointment, your podiatrist will perform a computerised gait analysis from head to toe. This analysis will allow them to review the video footage and explain how your walking pattern affects your body.

3D Foot Scan

To guarantee the orthotics provide you with the best results, a 3D laser precision scan of your feet is conducted. This scan takes accurate measurements of your entire foot, accounting for the variations in foot shapes.

3D CadCam Orthotic Design

To custom-design your orthotics, the podiatrist’s assessment, gait analysis, and 3D laser scan are combined using the latest CAD cam software. 3D laser scan files are uploaded to a computer, where the orthotic’s shape is matched to your feet using highly advanced and accurate software.

Orthotic Manufacture

Using the latest Australian technology, your custom orthotics are manufactured by direct milling from different rigid or soft materials. They are custom-designed to fit and colour-coordinate with your shoes.

Orthotic Fitting

During your fitting appointment, your orthotics are double-checked to ensure the perfect fit. We will fit them into your shoes and ensure that you are happy and comfortable before leaving. Our small onsite laboratory means any adjustments can be made on the spot. We understand that orthotics may take some time to adjust to, and we will provide you with instructions to make this transition smoother.

Our Guarantee

At Adelaide Podiatry Centres, we guarantee our orthotics. If you are unhappy with them in any way, we will adjust them with our in house laboratory until you are.
