What Can Podiatrists Treat?

Heel and Arch Pain

Heel pain is the number one case of foot related injuries that we see here at Adelaide Podiatry Centre. Most cases of heel pain our podiatrists see are caused by Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendon Injury, Children’s Heel Pain, Severs or a Heel Spur.

Children’s Feet

We have a special interest in children’s feet. Compared to adult’s feet, children’s feet are very different. They are extremely flexible and the bones are soft. We believe that taking care of feet while they are still growing is an important part of setting them up for life.

Achilles and Ankle Pain

The ankle is one of the most frequently injured joints and there are numerous conditions that can affect this are, both chronic and acute.

Knee Pain

Knees are very susceptible to injury due to the nature of their anatomical location. Instability and weakness of the hip and poor foot mechanics all place the knee under enormous stress that often leads to problems.

Shin Pain

Shin pain can be a serious problem for you. It’s a nasty condition and one that needs to be treated fast once it presents or ideally prevented in the first place. We have a 3 Component Shin Pain Relief System which treats the underlying factors which lead to shin pain.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is often described as the feeling of a stone bruise underneath the heel and fluctuates between acute sharpness to a constant ache. It usually causes pain in the first few steps in the morning and maybe later in the afternoon or evening.

Forefoot Pain

Forefoot pain can be caused by a number of factors including metatarsalgia, metatarsal stress fracture and morton’s neuroma.

Bunions

Bunions need to be treated as possible to avoid the need for surgery. Some bunions will not cause pain so it’s important to seek treatment as soon as you notice them even if they are not hurting.

Ingrown Toenails

Toenails help to protect the sensitive tissues in our toes, but can cause severe pain if they cut into the toes. The feet endure a lot of stresses and strains with walking, running, wearing shoes, working and playing sport. This problem commonly occurs on the big toe, however, smaller toes can be affected

Diabetic Feet

Diabetes is probably the most damaging disease that a patient can encounter with regards to their feet. Many members of our community both young and old suffer from “Diabetes Mellitus” a disorder that results in elevated blood sugar levels. A person with diabetes needs to pay special attention to their feet, as they have special needs.

Children’s Flat Feet

Children, as they grow, tend to have flat feet. Between birth to six years of age, the feet go through an extremely rapid period of growth. By age six, the feet should have nearly reached the foot posture of that of an adult, namely not flat footed.

Skin and Nail Care

General skin and nail care is important to keep on top of. We treat conditions including thickened or ingrown toenails, fungal infections, calluses and corns.

Lower Back Pain

Research indicates that 60-85% of the population will experience lower back pain at some stage of their lives. Recent research has indicated that podiatry has only had positive effects on lower back pain by addressing postural and alignment deficiencies.

Hip Pain

The hip joints connect our legs to our pelvis, and subsequently transfer a lot of motion up the body. If the biomechanics of our feet are unstable or incorrect, then it is quite possible that the hips may suffer as a result of this excess motion.

Flat and High Arched Feet

The feet are the foundation of the body. Flat and high arched feet lead to faulty alignment of the bones of the feet and legs often causes muscle and ligament dysfunction.

Sports Injury

Sports podiatry is a specific field of podiatry focusing on diagnosing, preventing and treating injuries related to sport. It is very important to accurately diagnose the complaint prior to developing a treatment plan. By using the latest assessment techniques, such as Computerised Gait Analysis we can diagnose your problem accurately. We work with our patients to develop a structured rehabilitation plan that is focused on getting you back training for your next major event.

What Will My Podiatry Appointment Involve?

Initial consultation with a podiatrist will include taking your medical history and assessment of your gait as well as the condition of your foot or ankle. Assessment of your symptoms will allow your podiatrist to make an informed diagnosis, and to formulate a tailored treatment plan. We use advanced techniques as part of our treatment plans including gait analysis, orthotics, shockwave therapy, dry needling and rehabilitation exercise programs so your treatment is tailored to your individual needs.
