Lower Back Pain Treatment Adelaide
North Adelaide & Eastwood
Is Back Pain Limiting Your Life?
Back pain can creep into every aspect of your day — from sitting at your desk, standing in the kitchen, picking up your children, to walking, running or exercising. Whether it’s a dull ache, a sharp pinch, or persistent lower back tightness, the pain can stop you from living the life you love.
At the Adelaide Podiatry Centres, we offer targeted treatment for persistent back pain, severe pain, and acute back pain or ongoing low back pain by assessing your foot posture, gait, and overall biomechanics to get you moving comfortably again.
Don’t let back pain linger — especially if it’s impacting your lifestyle. Help is here.

Understanding Your Back & Why It Hurts
The spine is your body’s central support system — a complex structure of vertebrae, discs, nerves, ligaments and muscles that work together to provide mobility and stability. But when even one part of that system is out of sync, pain can arise quickly.
Back pain can originate from:
- Lumbar disc issues
- Muscular strain or imbalance
- Spinal misalignment
- Poor posture habits
- Gait or foot abnormalities
- Overuse or impact injuries
Most people assume the problem lies only in the back — but very often, the root cause of the pain lies elsewhere in the body. And one of the most commonly overlooked causes is right under your feet.

Could Your Feet Be the Real Cause of Your Back Pain?
Back pain can be frustrating — especially if you’ve tried massage, stretching, and exercises with limited relief. What most people (and even many practitioners) don’t realise is that your foot posture may be a hidden driver of your spinal discomfort.
Chronic Back Pain Often Starts from the Ground Up
How Foot Alignment Affects Your Back
When your feet roll inward too much (overpronation) or have poor shock absorption (high arches), your lower limbs rotate and your pelvis tilts. This misalignment can travel up the kinetic chain, altering the position of your lumbar spine — and causing stress and inflammation in the lower back.
It’s like building a house on an uneven foundation — cracks eventually appear.

The Research Is Clear: Orthotics Can Provide Back Pain Relief
Cambron et al. (2017) — A randomized controlled trial published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation showed that custom orthotics led to a 34.5% reduction in chronic low back pain and an 18.5% improvement in function after just 6 weeks.
Ferrari (2013) — In the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, this study demonstrated that patients with chronic, work-related low back pain improved significantly more when they used custom orthotics along with standard care (exercise and analgesics) versus standard care alone.
Castro-Méndez et al. (2021) — Published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, this RCT showed that custom-made orthoses significantly reduced back pain and disability in patients with excessive foot pronation.

Back Pain Treatments: FAQs
Can my feet really be causing my back pain?
Yes – and it’s more common than you might know. If your feet roll in too much or lack proper support, it can throw off your alignment from the ground up, putting extra strain on your lower back.
What does a podiatrist do for back pain?
We assess your foot posture, gait and biomechanics to see how your lower limbs are affecting your spine. From there, we may recommend custom orthotics or other treatment plans to help correct imbalances and ease your chronic pain.
Will orthotics actually help with my back pain?
Research shows they can. Custom orthotics have been proven to reduce back pain and improve function—especially when poor foot posture is part of the problem. And, they’re comfortable and easy to wear!
What happens during a biomechanical assessment?
We take a detailed look at how your body functions. We perform some range of motion (flexibility), muscle testing and see how you stand. Following this we see you walk or run on our state of the art treadmill to acquire the data we need. This includes analysing your foot position, limb alignment, and muscle engagement to pinpoint what may be contributing to your back pain.
Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?
Not at all. You can book directly with our podiatrists at either our North Adelaide or Eastwood clinics for personalised treatments. If you have private health cover for orthotics, ask us about our GAP FREE offer.
