Pain in the Ball of the Foot (Forefoot) is a most common problem we see at Adelaide Podiatry Centres. In our clinic we have a special focus in diagnosing and treating this condition, and our niche are cases that have been chronic and difficult to fix.
A Morton’s Neuroma is an entrapped nerve that becomes thickened due to constant irritation from the surrounding bony structures forming an enlarged bundle of nervous tissue. It often called an ‘inter-digital’ neuroma because it is found between the toes of the foot, most commonly the 3rd and 4th toes.

Forefoot Pain can be a serious problem and needs to be treated fast once it presents or ideally prevented in the first place. Often our patients will report that they just can’t get up and go anymore, playing with the kids gets harder and exercise becomes near impossible. It will be a major issue for you (and your exercise plans) if you don’t act early.
While traditional treatments like footwear modification, orthotics, cortisone injections, or surgery can offer temporary relief or pose risks, prolotherapy provides a natural alternative by encouraging the body to repair irritated nerve and ligament tissue. At Adelaide Podiatry Centres, we use ultrasound-guided prolotherapy to accurately target the affected area between the metatarsal heads, helping reduce pain and improve foot function—especially in runners and active individuals.
Recent studies have shown promising results, with prolotherapy offering sustained symptom relief and improved walking comfort in patients with intermetatarsal neuromas. Unlike cortisone, which may mask symptoms but weaken tissue over time, prolotherapy supports long-term healing by reinforcing the surrounding ligament structures that contribute to forefoot stability. This makes it a safe, effective, and minimally invasive option for those wanting to avoid surgical excision or long recovery periods. Most patients experience gradual improvement across 2–3 sessions, with little downtime and no disruption to daily activity.
