Orthotics Enfield

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are custom-made devices that offer support, cushioning, and alignment to the feet, ankles, and lower legs. They are often used to alleviate foot, ankle, and lower leg pain and to correct structural abnormalities such as flat feet or high arches. Orthotics can also enhance balance and stability and are useful in both preventing and treating injuries.

Orthotics are available in many different forms, including off-the-shelf inserts and custom-made devices that are specifically designed to meet an individual’s unique requirements. They can be made from a variety of materials, including foam, plastic, and metal, and can be worn inside shoes or as a separate device. Podiatrists frequently prescribe them as an effective treatment option for a variety of ailments, such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and Achilles tendonitis.

How Do Orthotics Help?

Orthotic devices offer an excellent solution to enhance your daily life, whether they’re used to alleviate pain or prevent future issues. Studies have demonstrated that 85% of patients who receive orthotic therapy for related injuries report an improvement or complete resolution of pain, making them an excellent treatment option.

Adelaide Podiatry Centres offer custom orthotic assessment and prescription to residents of Enfield and surrounding suburbs.

Individual Orthotic Assessment and Design

At Adelaide Podiatry Centre, we offer one-of-a-kind arch supports that are custom-made to fit your unique feet using state-of-the-art technology. Our orthotic process and design promise to deliver orthotics that are comfortable, supportive and meet your specific needs!

The Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are designed to cater to the unique shape and needs of each individual’s feet, providing a more personalised and effective solution for foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. By taking precise measurements and scans of an individual’s feet, custom orthotics can provide better support, cushioning, and alignment, which can help alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Custom orthotics can help address specific conditions or injuries, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, or arthritis, providing a more personalised and effective solution for foot and lower leg problems. By taking precise measurements and scans of an individual’s feet, custom orthotics can distribute pressure more evenly across the foot, reduce the risk of further injury, and improve overall foot function.

Types of Orthotics

Our podiatry clinics offer a range of orthotics to suit different needs, including:

Standard Half Length Orthotics

Half length orthotics where the top cover stops at the end of the orthotic shell – the main part that provides support for your feetHalf length orthotics require less room in the toe box of footwear, allowing flexibility and  ease in wearing your orthotics across a range of shoe styles.

Sporthotics

Custom orthotics made for sports can be customised for comfortable walking or specific sports and activities. They are often made from softer materials to prevent blistering and have support modifications that vary depending on the sport and footwear.

Slimthotics

Orthotics designed for slimline or dress shoes are available and can be tailored to specific shoe types such as sandals, football boots, and cycling shoes. Thanks to our digital manufacturing process, we can size them to the nearest millimetre for the perfect fit.

Courthotics

Courthotics are ultra-slim orthotics designed for shoes where regular-sized orthotics may not fit. These orthotics have an adhesive base and can be easily fitted into almost any shoe for added support. They are ideal for heels and open shoes.

The Orthotic Fitting Process

At our podiatry clinic, we take pride in ensuring that your custom-made orthotics fit perfectly. Our orthotic fitting and design process includes a comprehensive analysis to determine your individual requirements and create a precise and accurate pair of orthotics.

Biomechanical Examination

To ensure that the orthotic prescription caters to your body type, feet, and requirements, your practitioner will conduct a biomechanical assessment of your hips, knees, ankles, and feet. It is crucial to assess each person individually as every individual is unique.

Computerised Gait Analysis

A computerised gait analysis from head to toe is conducted by your podiatrist to understand your walking pattern’s impact on your body. They will review the video footage and provide feedback accordingly.

3D Foot Scan

A customised, personal assessment of your feet is conducted to ensure the orthotics give you the best results. This assessment includes a 3D laser precision scan of your feet that takes accurate measurements of your entire foot.

3D CadCam Orthotic Design

Using the latest CAD cam software, your orthotics are designed from a combination of the podiatrist’s assessment, gait analysis, and the 3D laser scan. The 3D laser scan files are uploaded to a computer, where the orthotic’s shape is matched to your feet using highly complex and accurate software. The possibilities are endless in CAD cam software, and the orthotics can be designed in various shapes and materials.

Orthotic Manufacture

After the design process, your custom orthotics are manufactured using cutting-edge Australian technology, directly milled from different rigid or soft materials. They are tailored to fit and colour coordinate with your shoes.

Orthotic Fitting

Your fitting appointment is an opportunity to double-check your orthotics’ fit. We will fit them into your shoes and ensure your comfort and satisfaction before you leave. Our onsite laboratory means that there is no need for you to come back for adjustments to your orthotics. We will provide you with instructions to make the transition to the orthotics smoother, as it may take some time to adjust.
