Orthotics Highgate
What are orthotics?
Orthotics are custom-made devices that offer support, cushioning, and alignment to the feet, ankles, and lower legs. They are often used to alleviate foot, ankle, and lower leg pain and to correct structural abnormalities such as flat feet or high arches. Orthotics can also enhance balance and stability and are useful in both preventing and treating injuries.
There are many different types of orthotics available, ranging from off-the-shelf inserts to custom-made devices that are specifically designed to meet an individual’s unique needs. Orthotics can be made from a variety of materials, including foam, plastic, and metal, and can be worn in shoes or as a separate device. They are often prescribed by a podiatrist as an effective treatment option for a range of conditions, including plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and Achilles tendonitis.

How Do Orthotics Help?
Orthotic devices can significantly improve your overall well-being, whether they’re used to treat pain or prevent future issues. Studies have shown that 85% of patients who receive orthotic therapy for relevant injuries report an improvement in or complete resolution of pain.
If you’re a resident of Highgate or nearby areas, Adelaide Podiatry Centres offer custom orthotic assessment and prescription services to help you improve your foot health.
Individual Orthotic Assessment and Design
Adelaide Podiatry Centre offers singular arch supports, meticulously designed to suit your individual feet using the latest technology. Our orthotic process and design guarantees you receive arch supports that offer comfort and support.
The Benefits of Custom Orthotics
Custom orthotics are designed to cater to the unique shape and needs of each individual’s feet, providing a more personalised and effective solution for foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. By taking precise measurements and scans of an individual’s feet, custom orthotics can provide better support, cushioning, and alignment, which can help alleviate pain and improve mobility.
Custom orthotics can also be designed to address specific conditions or injuries, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, or arthritis. They can help distribute pressure more evenly across the foot, reduce the risk of further injury, and improve overall foot function. Custom orthotics can be more durable and longer-lasting than off-the-shelf inserts, making them a more cost-effective option in the long run. Custom orthotics can provide a more comprehensive and tailored solution for foot and lower leg problems, leading to improved comfort, mobility, and quality of life.
Types of Orthotics
We offer a range of different types of orthotics at our podiatry clinics including:
Standard Half Length Orthotics
Half length orthotics where the top cover stops at the end of the orthotic shell – the main part that provides support for your feet. Half length orthotics require less room in the toe box of footwear, allowing flexibility and ease in wearing your orthotics across a range of shoe styles.
Sporthotics
Sports orthotics can be made for comfortable walking or tailored to a specific sport or activity. They are generally softer to prevent blistering and feature support modifications that depend on the sport and footwear.
Slimthotics
Custom orthotics made for slimline or dress shoes can be tailored to specific shoe types like sandals, football boots and cycling shoes where other types of orthotics may not fit. Since these orthotics are made digitally, they can be sized to the nearest millimetre for a perfect fit.
Courthotics
Orthotics designed for shoes where regular-sized orthotics aren’t practical are available. Courthotics are ultra-slim and have an adhesive base that makes them easy to fit into almost any shoe, making them a great choice for heels and open shoes.

What Conditions Can Dry Orthotics Help With?
Conditions in which orthotics can help include:
The Orthotic Fitting Process
At our podiatry clinic, we take pride in ensuring that your custom-made orthotics fit perfectly. Our orthotic fitting and design process includes a comprehensive analysis to determine your individual requirements and create a precise and accurate pair of orthotics.
Biomechanical Examination
To ensure that the orthotic prescription caters to your body type, feet, and requirements, your practitioner will conduct a biomechanical assessment of your hips, knees, ankles, and feet. It is crucial to assess each person individually as every individual is unique.
Computerised Gait Analysis
During your appointment, your podiatrist will perform a computerised gait analysis from head to toe. This analysis will allow them to review the video footage and explain how your walking pattern affects your body.
3D Foot Scan
A customised, personal assessment of your feet is conducted to ensure the orthotics give you the best results. This assessment includes a 3D laser precision scan of your feet that takes accurate measurements of your entire foot.
3D CadCam Orthotic Design
Your orthotics are custom-designed using a combination of the podiatrist’s assessment, gait analysis, and the 3D laser scan, utilising the latest CAD cam software. 3D laser scan files are uploaded to a computer, where the orthotic’s shape is matched to your feet using highly sophisticated and precise software.
Orthotic Manufacture
Your custom orthotics are then manufactured by using cutting edge Australian technology and direct milled from various rigid or soft materials. They are designed to fit and colour coordinate your shoes.
Orthotic Fitting
To ensure the perfect fit, your orthotics are double-checked during your fitting appointment. We will fit them into your shoes and make sure you are comfortable and satisfied before you leave. Our onsite laboratory is available for minor adjustments, so there is no need for you to come back. We will provide you with instructions to help you adjust to the orthotics, as it may take some time.
Our Guarantee
Customer satisfaction is our top priority at Adelaide Podiatry Centres, and we guarantee the quality of our orthotics. If you are not completely satisfied, we have an in-house laboratory to make any necessary adjustments.
