Orthotics Fullarton

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are custom-made devices that offer support, cushioning, and alignment to the feet, ankles, and lower legs. They are often used to alleviate foot, ankle, and lower leg pain and to correct structural abnormalities such as flat feet or high arches. Orthotics can also enhance balance and stability and are useful in both preventing and treating injuries.

An extensive range of orthotics is available, from off-the-shelf inserts to custom-made devices that are designed to cater to an individual’s specific needs. Orthotics can be made from various materials, including foam, plastic, and metal, and can be worn inside shoes or as a separate device. Podiatrists frequently recommend them as a highly effective treatment option for various conditions, such as plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and Achilles tendonitis.

How Do Orthotics Help?

Orthotic devices can significantly improve your overall well-being, whether they’re used to treat pain or prevent future issues. Studies have shown that 85% of patients who receive orthotic therapy for relevant injuries report an improvement in or complete resolution of pain.

Adelaide Podiatry Centres offer custom orthotic assessment and prescription to residents of Fullarton and surrounding suburbs.

Individual Orthotic Assessment and Design

Adelaide Podiatry Centre offers singular arch supports, meticulously designed to suit your individual feet using the latest technology. Our orthotic process and design guarantees you receive arch supports that offer comfort and support.

The Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are designed to cater to the unique shape and needs of each individual’s feet, providing a more personalised and effective solution for foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. By taking precise measurements and scans of an individual’s feet, custom orthotics can provide better support, cushioning, and alignment, which can help alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Custom orthotics provide a customised and comprehensive solution for foot and lower leg problems, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, or arthritis. By distributing pressure more evenly across the foot, custom orthotics can reduce the risk of further injury and improve overall foot function. Custom orthotics are more durable and longer-lasting than off-the-shelf inserts, making them a cost-effective option in the long run, ultimately leading to improved comfort, mobility, and quality of life.

Types of Orthotics

At our podiatry clinics, we provide multiple types of orthotics to cater to different conditions, including:

Standard Half Length Orthotics

Half-length orthotics offer a unique design, with a top cover that stops at the end of the orthotic shell – the primary component that provides support for your feet. This design allows them to require less room in the toe box of footwear, providing greater flexibility and ease in wearing them with different shoe styles.

Sporthotics

Sports orthotics can be made for comfortable walking or tailored to a specific sport or activity. They are generally softer to prevent blistering and feature support modifications that depend on the sport and footwear.

Slimthotics

Orthotics designed for slimline or dress shoes can be customised for specific shoe types, including sandals, football boots and cycling shoes, where other styles of orthotics may not fit. These orthotics are made digitally and can be sized to the nearest millimetre for a perfect fit.

Courthotics

Courthotics are ultra-slim orthotics designed for shoes where regular-sized orthotics may not fit. These orthotics have an adhesive base and can be easily fitted into almost any shoe for added support. They are ideal for heels and open shoes.

The Orthotic Fitting Process

At our podiatry clinic, we use a detailed analysis to ensure that your custom-made orthotics are the perfect fit, size and shape for your feet. Our orthotic fitting and design process involves several assessments to determine your individual requirements and create orthotics that are precise and accurate for your needs.

Biomechanical Examination

Your practitioner will perform a biomechanical assessment of your hips, knees, ankle and feet. This biomechanical assessment is important to make sure that the orthotic prescription is going to meet your body type, feet and your needs. Every person is different and so it is important to look at each person individually.

Computerised Gait Analysis

A computerised gait analysis from head to toe is conducted by your podiatrist to understand your walking pattern’s impact on your body. They will review the video footage and provide feedback accordingly.

3D Foot Scan

A customised, personal assessment of your feet is conducted to ensure the orthotics give you the best results. This assessment includes a 3D laser precision scan of your feet that takes accurate measurements of your entire foot.

3D CadCam Orthotic Design

To custom-design your orthotics, the podiatrist’s assessment, gait analysis, and 3D laser scan are combined using the latest CAD cam software. 3D laser scan files are uploaded to a computer, where the orthotic’s shape is matched to your feet using highly advanced and accurate software.

Orthotic Manufacture

Manufactured using cutting-edge Australian technology, your custom orthotics are directly milled from various rigid or soft materials. They are custom-tailored to fit and colour-coordinate with your shoes.

Orthotic Fitting

During your fitting appointment, your orthotics are double-checked to ensure the perfect fit. We will fit them into your shoes and ensure that you are happy and comfortable before leaving. Our small onsite laboratory means any adjustments can be made on the spot. We understand that orthotics may take some time to adjust to, and we will provide you with instructions to make this transition smoother.

Our Guarantee

We stand behind the quality of our orthotics at Adelaide Podiatry Centres. If you are not satisfied with them in any way, we will make adjustments using our in-house laboratory until you are completely happy.
